I was the Head of Division of GI Surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals until 2017. I trained in Surgery in Sheffield and later specialising in colorectal surgery at St Mark’s Hospital London. I have been a Consultant Surgeon for almost 22 years in Nottingham.

I am well known nationally and internationally for my research in colorectal cancer screening, anal fissures and anal cancer. I have published over 120 peer reviewed papers in Surgical journals and edited or co-edited six textbooks on colorectal surgery.

In addition to running busy NHS and private practices I also lead a clinical research team, a gastro intestinal motility laboratory and supervises four PhD students. Collaboration with the Wolfson Digestive Diseases Foundation and the School of Biomedical Sciences at University of Nottingham form an integral part of this research activity. I also chair the National Clinical Research Institute Surgical Trials group 2009-2015.

I have a busy clinical practice mainly dealing with colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anal diseases such as fissure, fistula, haemorrhoids and incontinence.
