I have been a consultant for 20 years and my NHS practice is based at the Royal Derby Hospital. I focus on hip and knee replacement and perform over 300 hip and knee replacements per year, a significant proportion of these being young patients, complex joint revision procedures or tertiary referrals. I am a sought after second opinion for complex hip cases.

I perform a large number of hip and knee replacements and submit data on every case to the National Joint Registry. My independently reviewed results are excellent with a very low revision rate (in the top 5% of both hip and knee surgeons for revision).

Along with two anaesthetic colleagues I developed the enhanced recovery program in Derby - this focuses on the whole patient journey from diagnosis to full recovery. This involved improvements in patient education, pain relief and a muscle sparing approach to the hip. Patient feedback is excellent.

I attended The Queens College, University of Oxford for preclinical medical student training followed by the University of Cambridge for clinical training. I decided very early on to pursue a career in orthopaedics and my general orthopaedic training followed at Nottingham and Derby Hospitals. I then attained a 12 month hip and knee fellowship in Perth, Western Australia.

Hip and knee replacement is a real passion of mine - you only live once and I firmly believe a timely, well planned and performed joint replacement prolongs good function and improves quality of life.
