I have been a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon for 18 years. I perform all types of traditional and keyhole heart surgery for a wide range of heart problems including aortic valve repair and aortic valve replacement, complex aortic surgery, mitral valve repair and replacement, coronary artery bypass surgery, Cox maze procedure and more. I trained at University Hospital of Umea in Sweden and Varese University Hospital in Italy.

I specialise in the complex surgery of the thoracic aorta, including valve sparing operation and hybrid reconstruction of the aortic arch and the descending aorta (frozen elephant trunk technique).

To date I have performed over 2,500 open heart surgery, including more than 1,000 coronary artery bypass grafting and valve surgery and 500 operation for the diseases of the thoracic aorta over a 18 year period in both my NHS and private practice.

I am currently the research lead of the UK Aortic Society (UK-AS), and appointed member of the Adult Cardiac Surgery and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland (SCTS). I have research interests in clinical trials and a chief investigator of multiple registries, investigating organ failure after cardiac surgery and preventive mechanisms.

I am the author and co-author of more than 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and chapters in 9 books. I am also a member of editorial boards of medical journals, and has reviewed manuscripts for over 40 international medical journals.
