MBBS, PhD, FESC, FRCP London
I am an internationally trained consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist based in Leicester. I specialise in a range of cardiac conditions, including syncope and atrial fibrillation, and provide treatments such as pacemaker and device implants, as well as ablation procedures. I also have specialised expertise in sports cardiology.
I earned my medical degree from Ain Shams University in Egypt in 2005. I pursued specialty training in cardiology until 2014, when I was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at Ain Shams University Hospitals in Cairo. In 2016, I relocated to the UK, where I completed a two-year advanced clinical fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology and devices at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital.
Since 2019, I have been one of the few cardiologists in the UK accredited by the European Heart Rhythm Association in both cardiac electrophysiology and devices. I achieved this distinction by passing the requisite exams and completing the necessary number of cases. This accreditation enables me to perform over 300 procedures annually, including radiofrequency ablation for various cardiac arrhythmias, device implantation (such as pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and implantable cardiac defibrillators). I established a novel pacing modality, called conduction system pacing, a method that stimulates the heart in a natural physiologic way to improve the heart function and prevent/treat heart failure. I am a nationally recognised expert in this field with multiple research projects.
I have served as principal investigator on multiple research studies and continue to engage in research when possible. I have multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and have presented my work at conferences in Egypt, the UK, and internationally. I regularly participate in continuous professional development courses, focusing on cardiac specialties, management, and leadership skills.
Recently, I was appointed as a senior lecturer at the University of Leicester, in addition to my role as a consultant at the hospital. In 2023, I was recognised as a healthcare pioneer, a national award acknowledging my expertise in atrial fibrillation treatment.
