Diabetes specialist ranked fourth in the world
16 August 2019
Professor Ketan Dhatariya, Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine, has been ranked fourth in the world as an expert in a life-threatening condition called Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), by Expertscape. DKA develops when the body produces high levels of acids in the blood called ketones. This occurs because there is not enough insulin to move sugar (glucose) into the cells where it can be used for energy.
Prof Dhatariya who runs weekly clinics at Spire Norwich Hospital, said "I want to make Norwich shine and it's nice that the work we've done here has been recognised. I am fortunate to have colleagues that allow me to work on the things I really enjoy. And the focus has always been on improving the care of patients with diabetes."
Expertscape is a healthcare information website that enables patients to quickly and easily find the medical professionals and institutions who have the greatest knowledge about a particular medical problem.
