MBBS, MA, FRCS
I am a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, having joined the Trust in 2022. I specialise in minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery, including laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic-assisted techniques. My areas of expertise include colorectal cancer, advanced pelvic cancers, pelvic floor disorders, inflammatory bowel disease and other benign bowel conditions. I also perform minimally invasive and open hernia surgery.
I am committed to offering minimally invasive surgery whenever appropriate and provide advanced laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures for patients undergoing major colorectal surgery. I am also an experienced endoscopist, performing diagnostic colonoscopies and the removal of many benign bowel polyps.
As part of my specialist practice, I run pelvic floor clinics and treat patients with faecal incontinence, obstructive defaecation disorders and rectal prolapse. My practice includes procedures such as rectopexy for rectal prolapse and sacral nerve stimulation for faecal incontinence. I also diagnose and treat a wide range of benign anorectal conditions, including haemorrhoids, anal fistulas, anal fissures and pilonidal sinus disease, as well as complex diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease requiring surgical intervention.
Since becoming a consultant, I have performed more than 200 colorectal cancer resections, including over 150 robotic-assisted procedures. I have also treated more than 1,000 patients with haemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures and pilonidal sinus disease, and have performed over 350 colonoscopies, including therapeutic polypectomies.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have a strong interest in education and training. I am Deputy Training Programme Director for Higher Surgical Training in the East of England Deanery and have held this role since 2025. I was previously the clinical lead for the two-week-wait colorectal cancer pathway at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. I am also an Associate Professor at Norwich Medical School and Head of Year 3 MBBS.
I qualified in Medicine from the University of Mumbai in 2000 and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) in 2006. Following research and clinical training at St Mark's Hospital in London, I completed higher surgical training in the East of England and an Advanced Colorectal Fellowship at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. I have also helped establish the sacral nerve stimulation service at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, one of only two centres in the East of England offering this treatment for faecal incontinence.
