Mr George E Spyrou
Consultant Plastic Surgeon
MD, FRCS(Ed), MPhil, CCMS(PLAST-GR), EBOPRAS
I have been a Consultant Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgeon for over 20 years. I undertake all aspects of cosmetic surgery and the main bulk of my work is facial aesthetics, breast and body contouring surgery. My total experience in Plastic surgery has a 30-year span.
I offer only bespoke procedures based on safety and honesty. My result will aim to achieve proportion, harmony and symmetry. Your outcome will not be an exaggerated one and you will not have the stigma of extreme plastic surgery. My reputation both as a reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon has blossomed due to a combination of factors based on a patient-specific, proportionate and uniquely balanced approach. When this type of patient-centred approach is combined with up-to-date scientific knowledge, extensive training and years of experience together with distilled maturity, the end result is a direct benefit to you as the patient. Your wishes will be discussed in great length. I will help you to make the right choices. My success is based on trying to reach the point of sensitivity and truthfulness. I always aim to create a comfortable Dr/patient rapport, invite questions and concerns you may have and in return I will give a thorough explanation of your condition and offer the appropriate solutions.
I have a special interest in implant-based breast augmentation as well as breast uplifts and breast reductions. I was one of the very few surgeons who alerted MHRA, (UK Health and Medicines Regulatory body) with regards to the risks of aggressive textured silicone implants (ALCL) as early as 2014 when I reported the second case in the UK. Currently I only use nanotextured breast implants which are not linked to ALCL. I also offer an all-in-one stage male breast reduction (gynaecomastia reduction) using a self-developed technique.
I perform body contouring surgery, arm lifts, tummy tucks and liposuction. I have been the bariatric lead in the Midyorks NHS Trust for massive weight loss patients and gained valuable experience through that role. I also perform skin tightening, musculofascial reconstruction/tightening as well as targeted liposuction.
In aesthetic facial surgery I have a special interest in blepharoplasties, rhinoplasties autologous fat transfer to improve facial contouring and prominent ear correction. For facial contouring I use the Sidney Coleman fat transfer approach for long-lasting natural results. Fat is removed from another part of the body is and used to improve facial aesthetics. For rhinoplasty complex cases I can offer a combined service with ENT surgeons if required or requested.
As the skin cancer lead in the Midyorks NHS Trust I offer all types of skin cancer resection and reconstruction for private patients.
To date I have performed over 20,000 procedures in plastic surgery in both the NHS and privately. I keep up to date with my general medical education, especially with the latest techniques in cosmetic facial/breast/body surgery by regularly attending courses, meetings and seminars in the UK, Europe and USA. I am currently an NHS Consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Midyorks NHS Trust. I hold a senior clinical post and I am also educational supervisor for junior doctors. I have developed specific and pioneering techniques across the range of treatments I offer, achieving great results and presenting my techniques in various scientific meetings.
I gained my basic medical qualification in Greece before relocating to the UK in 1992. After 4 years of basic training in general and plastic surgery, I qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 1996. Following that I undertook a pioneering research project in the management of scars at the University of Bradford. I was awarded the higher degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) for my thesis in 1998. In 2003 I was awarded the European Boards of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Qualification (EBOPRAS). I have a dual qualification and am licensed to practice both in UK and EU.
My higher specialist training as a Specialist Registrar in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery was carried out in Bradford, Leeds, Hull and Wakefield. I also spent periods in other specialist centres in London and Belgium. In 2003 I had the privilege in to be one of the few selected to complete probably the most prestigious cosmetic fellowship in the UK at the Humana Wellington Hospital in London. I was taught plastic surgery by the BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) president at the time Mr Norman Waterhouse.
I have now reached a stage in my career where I am well known and recognised. I acquired my reputation through hard work and ethics. I have been invited on numerous occasions to deliver topics as a faculty member, I have written a thesis on scar management following 2 years of laboratory research, am an author of chapters in specialist books, have 15 peer-reviewed publications and have presented in excess of 150 papers in scientific societies.
Your consultation with me can become very meaningful if you are also prepared. You can do that by visiting my web site and use the tools I have provided. You will find detailed and practical information about the procedure you are interested in and you will have the chance to view before and after pictures for the majority of plastic surgery procedures I offer.
