Patient Regains Confidence After Urogynaecology Treatment at Spire Manchester
24 February 2026
“After my first natural birth, I knew something wasn’t right. Within six months I began experiencing worsening symptoms, mainly incontinence and an overwhelming pressure sensation whenever I tried to exercise. Even light activity, coughing, sneezing or being unwell would cause me to lose bladder control. It stopped me from exercising completely. I was also dealing with a small rectocele, which made going to the toilet very difficult.
I first went to my GP in 2020 and completed nine months of physiotherapy, but nothing improved. When I contacted my GP again, I discovered I had been missed on the NHS system and had already waited over two years. I was told I would need to wait at least another year just for a consultation at St Mary’s in Manchester.
With young children to run around after, I couldn’t continue living like that. I wanted to enjoy playing with them, chasing them in the garden, and being active again. That’s when I knew I needed to explore private treatment.
After researching specialists in the North West, Dr Jonathan Broome stood out immediately. His excellent reviews, strong recommendations, and impressive treatment outcomes gave me confidence that he was the right person to see. Once I’d learned more about his work, I booked my first consultation.
The whole process from my first consultation to the procedure took around 6–8 weeks. This timing was mostly due to my work schedule I could have had the procedure sooner if I’d wanted to.
Spire Manchester Hospital was wonderful. The staff were friendly and very accommodating, and my room had everything I needed.
I did feel a little faint when walking during recovery, so I stayed an extra night because of low blood pressure. Once home, my husband was able to support me, and I managed well.
I arrived early afternoon, expecting surgery around 2–3pm, but due to other circumstances it happened later in the day, not a big issue, aside from being very hungry!
Dr Broome visited me beforehand to talk everything through where he really put me at ease.
After the operation, I spent two nights in hospital due to my blood pressure. I was worried, but Dr Broome checked in regularly, reassured me, and arranged further checks. I also saw physiotherapists who were incredibly helpful and thorough.
Life post procedure has been super! The difference in my incontinence is huge. I no longer have issues when sneezing, coughing or being active, and best of all I can exercise again.
This was honestly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
A huge thank you to Dr Broome and his amazing team at Spire Manchester.”
