Professional profile

I obtained my medical degree in London before completing my clinical training in dermatology in Liverpool.

I practises general dermatology and set up specialist photodermatology services in 1995 for both, the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with a wide range of photosensitivity disorders, i.e. skin reactions to sunlight. As well as the treatment of superficial skin cancers with photodynamic therapy (PDT). My research programme has trialled and developed new treatments for photosensitivity and best protocols for the practice of PDT.

I have key international, national and local roles within the fields of photobiology and photodermatology including President of the European Society for Photobiology and Board Member of Public Health England, for the Advisory Group on Non-Ionising Radiation. My previous roles include, Chair of the British Photodermatology Group and Chair of the UK Skin Cancer Working Group (focusing on prevention).

I have many original and review publications, and have co-authored 9 national guideline reports on best clinical practice in photodermatology, with 2 ongoing guideline updates including PDT.

I am frequently invited to speak nationally and internationally on my specialist clinical practice, including new approaches to improve patients' symptoms.
