I graduated in dentistry from Edinburgh in 1985 before oral and maxillofacial posts in Edinburgh, Liverpool and Aberdeen. I qualified in medicine from Aberdeen in 1994 and completed basic surgical training in Aberdeen and Edinburgh and higher surgical training in Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

In addition to dental and surgical fellowships, I have a diploma in medical education and i'm a fellow of the faculty of surgical trainers. I'm a Council Member and Trustee of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and the first OMFS surgeon outside Scotland to be elected to council.
