I treat a broad range of oral and maxillofacial and oral surgery conditions of the mouth, face, jaws and neck. This includes dentoalveolar surgery (roots, wisdom teeth and cysts), soft tissue lesions of the mouth and lips, bone grafting and dental implants, salivary gland surgery and surgical dermatology.

I specialise in surgery for cosmetic and functional facial deformity and disproportion and the treatment of facial trauma.

In my NHS practice, I complete up to 1,000 new consultations per year. I undertake jaw deformity surgery for approximately 80 jaws and am responsible for the treatment of over 300 facial injuries per year.

I graduated in dentistry from Edinburgh in 1985 before oral and maxillofacial posts in Edinburgh, Liverpool and Aberdeen. I qualified in medicine from Aberdeen in 1994 and completed basic surgical training in Aberdeen and Edinburgh and higher surgical training in Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough. 

In addition to dental and surgical fellowships, I have a diploma in medical education and i'm a fellow of the faculty of surgical trainers. I'm a Council Member and Trustee of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and the first OMFS surgeon outside Scotland to be elected to council.

I am Dean of the international postgraduate deanery of RCSEd and actively involved in education and examinations.

I was formerly the Training Programme Director for oral and maxillofacial surgery and Chair of the specialist surgical board for OMFS for the North West. I host, supervise and examine nationally and internationally for MRCS, and examine for specialist OMFS and MFDS examinations.

I am Clinical Lead for OMFS for Manchester Royal Infirmary and regularly instruct in advanced trauma and critical care.
