Specialises in
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in surgery and conditions of the foot and ankle. I have been a Consultant since 2008. I also offer surgery for complex injuries, limb deformities and bone infection using Ilizarov external fixators. My practice includes keyhole surgery for bunions, hammer toes, Achilles tendon ruptures, and some foot fractures. I provide all my foot and ankle patients with a nerve block to ensure that they remain pain free for 24 hours after surgery. I endeavour to give my patients the best possible advice and treatments.
I have expertise in the treatment of foot and ankle injuries and the treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle. I treat bunions mainly with keyhole surgery. I also use keyhole surgery for repairing Achilles tendons, some foot fractures, and many ankle disorders. Almost all of my patients who have ankle fractures are able to weight bear immediately after surgery.
I can also treat limb deformities as a result of previous accidents, and naturally occurring conditions, with Ilizarov external fixators. I treat complex fractures, especially those that are difficult to heal, and bone infections. I have a substantial experience in war surgery, having treated casualties for different charities in several conflicts.
I have performed over 500 bunion procedures. I have performed over 1200 nerve blocks with ultrasound for post operative pain relief.
I have been invited to teach on courses run by the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, and given lectures for the British Limb Reconstruction Society. I am involved in running the regional Foot and Ankle group and regional Limb reconstruction group in Manchester. I run several courses for doctors in training.
I hold the following positions: Director of Orthocycle charity, Convenor for Manchester Cadaveric Hindfoot Course and Convenor for Emergency External Fixation Course.
I have worked in several war zones for charities to treat casualties. I am also a member of the UKIETR, a government funded team who are trained to respond to medical needs in the case of natural disaster elsewhere around the world.
