Mrs Maria Tsimpida
Paediatric Ophthalmology Consultant
"Spire is a very organised hospital with high standard facilities and very experienced personnel with the aim to provide high-quality patient care."
I have been a Paediatric Ophthalmology Consultant for the last seven years. I am the lead of the Paediatric Ophthalmology Department in two busy hospitals in East London (Whipps Cross University Hospital and Newham University Hospital) and I am also working at The Royal London Hospital, which is a major trauma centre. Being a consultant in three major London teaching hospitals has given me a high degree of experience to deal with a wide range of paediatric ophthalmology conditions.
I specialise in Paediatric Ophthalmology Surgery with specific interest in squints, eyelid lesions removal and treatment of watery eyes. I am also performing refraction (determination of glasses or contact lenses prescription) and treating amblyopia (lazy eye). I can manage any eye condition in children from birth until 16 years of age.
I have performed around 500 squint operations, around 600 nasolacrimal duct probings and over 650 eyelid cyst removals.
I am currently the lead of the Paediatric Ophthalmology Service in Whipps Cross University Hospital and Newham University Hospital and the Clinical Lead of the Ophthalmology Department at Newham University Hospital.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mrs Maria Tsimpida at Spire include:
Any eye condition that affects children under the age of 16 including watery eyes, squints (ocular misallignment), amblyopia (lazy eye) and eyelid cysts.
Spire London East Hospital is only able to provide Covid-19 tests to patients undergoing surgery at our hospital. Covid-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service.
