What should you look for in a flight sock?

09 August 2018

Although there is a recognised risk of suffering deep vein thrombosis after the prolonged immobility of long haul flights, far commoner is the problem of swollen ankles after air travel which can spoil several days of your holiday.

The best way to avoid the development of ankle swelling after flying is to wear below knee Class I or II graduated elastic stockings. You should go to a pharmacy that has staff who are trained to measure legs and fit appropriately sized stockings. Do not buy flight socks at the airport without your legs being measured properly.

These stockings are pretty durable and so should last for many journeys. Don't forget to stay well hydrated and take regular strolls around the plane during the journey.
