Spire Murrayfield Hospital Edinburgh rated ‘Exceptional’ and ‘Good’ in Healthcare Improvement Scotland inspection

Spire Murrayfield Hospital Edinburgh has been rated ‘Good’ for safe, person-centred care and implementation and delivery, in an unannounced inspection by Healthcare Improvement Scotland on 25 and 26 May 2026.
In addition, the hospital’s rating for vision, purpose, leadership and culture increased to ‘Exceptional’ from ‘Good’ from its previous inspection in 2024.
The inspectors said patients were very satisfied with their care and treatment, and staff described the provider as a good employer and the hospital as a good place to work.
The report also found that appropriate policies and procedures supported staff to deliver safe, compassionate and person-centred care. Patient experience was regularly assessed and used to continually improve how the service was delivered.
The findings noted a clear governance structure was in place, and staff were empowered to raise any concerns. The leadership team was visible, and staff spoke very positively about the changes and culture in the hospital.
