BSc (Hons), MBChB, MD, FRCS (Tr&Orth)
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery and complex lower limb trauma. As a specialist foot and ankle surgeon, I offer the full spectrum of elective foot and ankle surgery, ranging from forefoot and bunion surgery to complex reconstructive procedures, sports-related foot and ankle injuries and total ankle replacement surgery. I am part of the Northlight Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine group, delivering high-quality, multidisciplinary care that helps patients return to sport, work and everyday life.
I graduated from both the University of St Andrews and the University of Edinburgh. I completed my specialist orthopaedic training on the South-East Scotland Orthopaedic Training Programme, having ranked first nationally during the competitive orthopaedic specialty recruitment process. Alongside my surgical training, I completed a two-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) research degree focusing on improving the care of patients with foot and ankle trauma, providing a strong academic foundation for my clinical practice.
Following my UK training, I undertook international fellowship training in Melbourne, Australia. I completed advanced trauma fellowship training at Monash Health before undertaking specialist foot and ankle fellowship training with the internationally recognised OrthoSport Victoria (OSV) group. During this time, I gained extensive experience in the management of complex foot and ankle conditions and sports injuries, including the treatment of professional athletes.
I have published more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers and regularly lectures nationally and internationally on foot and ankle trauma and orthopaedic surgery. I am actively involved in surgical education and was awarded Trainer of the Year for South-East Scotland in 2026.
In addition to his orthopaedic practice, I have a particular interest in sports medicine and acute injury management. A former Scottish amateur boxing champion with representation at international level, I serve as a ringside medical officer for the British Boxing Board of Control. Away from work, I enjoy rugby, running, golf and exploring the Scottish hills with my family and Labrador.
I see patients privately in Edinburgh at Spire Shawfair Park Hospital. I am fee assured with the major medical insurers. My NHS practice is based at Fife Orthopaedics, NHS Fife. My aim is to combine specialist expertise, evidence-based treatment and clear communication to help patients understand their condition and achieve the best possible recovery.
