My professional practice is concentrated on adult reconstruction surgery in the lower limb and shoulder surgery. My surgical practice in hip and knee arthroplasty covers 130 primary joint replacements a year and approximately 20 revision cases. I have a particular interest in the outcome of knee replacement surgery. This has been the subject of an ongoing research study over the last five years, the primary objective of which is to identify factors which affect the success of knee arthroplasty.

My interest in sport and sports-related injury has been a focus for my work over the last 20 years. My interest is chiefly in developing surgical skills in knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgery and training other surgeons in these techniques. Knee ligament injury has been a major interest too, in particular complex instability of the knee and the challenge of surgical reconstruction and rehabilitation. I have also had a longstanding interest in shoulder disorders and their management using arthroscopic surgery and open surgical repair, which has also involved close partnership with physiotherapists in upper limb rehabilitation.
