I trained in medicine at Newcastle University and spent my Basic Surgical Training time in the North-East of England. I then moved to Edinburgh to undertake my ENT specialist training. This advanced training was augmented by time spent in Dundee, Iowa (USA) and Christchurch (New Zealand).
I was then appointed as a Consultant Head and Neck surgeon in Fife for two years prior to taking up my current appointment as lead clinician for Head and Neck Cancer Services in the Department of Otolaryngology in Edinburgh.
I am fully trained in all aspects of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery. My main practice and expertise is in Head and Neck Surgery. This deals with benign and cancerous conditions in the head and neck region, as well as disease of the thyroid and salivary glands.
My research background is in problems of voice and swallowing and I completed a Masters degree in Advanced Speech and Swallowing Research at Newcastle University.
