Having graduated from Cambridge University in 1999, I completed basic surgical training in Edinburgh followed by orthopaedic training as Clinical Lecturer in Edinburgh. I then undertook two years of specialist orthopaedic training: one year specialist neuromuscular orthopaedic fellowship in Basel, Switzerland and one year senior clinical fellowship in paediatric orthopaedics, RHSC, Yorkhill, Glasgow.
I have completed a PhD during orthopaedic training investigating fracture healing and the immune system. I have also published in excess of 40 peer reviewed academic articles and provide review for three orthopaedic journals and NIHR.
I have been awarded seven grants related to my research including the RCSEd Cutner Orthopaedic Fellowship and have been awarded several major prizes including the BORS-ORS Travelling Fellowship 2008 and the Joint Action Travelling Fellowship 2010. I have an ongoing programme of research in orthopaedics involving international collaborations with colleagues in Switzerland and Australia and publish regularly in this area.
I was appointed as consultant in orthopaedic surgery, NHS Lothian in 2011 and a significant portion of my practice is at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids) Edinburgh. My practice incorporates all aspect of orthopaedics and trauma for children, the orthopaedic management of neuromsuclar conditions in all ages and specialist foot and ankle surgery in adults.
I am the clinical specialist of the gait analysis service for this region and am part of a multidisciplinary team that assesses patients of all ages at the gait analysis laboratory, based in the SMART centre at the Astley Ainslie Hospital.

I live in East Lothian with my wife and two kids. Scarce free time is spent in the gym, doing DIY and manning the barbeque when the weather permits.Back to top
