Dr Rosemary Cochrane
BSc(Hons), MBChB, DA, MRCOG, MFSRH, DipGUM
My main interests are in medical gynaecology, menopause and hormone replacement therapy. I also hold a Diploma in Genito-Urinary Medicine and part of my NHS role is diagnosing and managing genital problems (such as skin problems) and sexually transmitted infection. I am trained in gynaecological ultrasound so perform detailed transvaginal scans for reassurance and to diagnose gynaecological disease.
I trained in medicine at the University of Glasgow and qualified in 1985. Initially I worked in anaesthesia but for the past twenty years I have trained and worked in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I work in the NHS as a consultant in Gynaecology and Sexual Health at the Chalmers Centre for Sexual and Reproductive Health in Edinburgh city centre.
I have been trained in the management of female sexual problems so I am familiar with seeing patients who may have a problem they have usually found too embarrassing or too personal to discuss with their regular healthcare professionals.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Rosemary Cochrane at Spire include:
Pelvic ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, vulval biopsy, contraceptive implant/intrauterine device, hormone levels, menopause advice and hormone replacement therapy prescription, HRT implant insertion, diagnosis and treatment of STIs, sexual health screening, well woman screening, unplanned pregnancy advice and referral
COVID-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals Murrayfield and Shawfair Park.
