Specialises in

I'm a senior and eminent UK Consultant Gastroenterologist and a Honorary Professor at the University of Sheffield, with a private practice at Spire Claremont Hospital. I see patients with most gastroenterology problems including patients with heartburn/reflux, diarrhoea, bloating or constipation, inflammatory bowel disease and any patients requiring gastroscopy or colonoscopy. I also see patients with IBS, coeliac disease, gluten (and other dietary) sensitivity and bacterial overgrowth.

I qualified from medical school in Dublin, Ireland and completed my specialist training in Sheffield which included a period of research and was awarded an MD with the University of Sheffield.

I'm currently the lead for the Sheffield double balloon enteroscopy service and also provide the capsule endoscopy service, both of which are established regional services which have won national awards. I am also the first author of the British Society of Gastroenterology (national) guidelines and a co-author on the European guidelines (ESGE) on capsule endoscopy and enteroscopy. I am a permanent faculty member at the international Lumley capsule endoscopy course, run a national training course for doctors and an advance course on capsule endoscopy for nurses. I have a clinical research fellow under my supervision. I'm also leading the development of a curriculum for small bowel endoscopy within my role in the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE).

I'm one of the most published on small bowel research in the UK and was awarded the Hopkins Endoscopy Prize by the British Society of Gastroenterology in 2012, being the first ever female gastroenterologist to be recognised with this prize. I was conferred an honorary chair by the University of Sheffield Nov 2018 and am the fourth female professor in gastroenterology in the UK currently.

I have been an invited speaker at several national and international gastroenterology meetings as a small bowel endoscopy expert.
