I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cataract surgery, oculoplastics, lacrimal surgery, orbital surgery and ocular oncology at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, with a private practice at Spire Claremont Hospital.

I am a renowned expert in cataract surgery having performed over 5,000 cataract surgeries (phacoemulsification/ small incision/ suture less) over the last 2 decades. I also offer clear lens extraction surgery and is proficient in use of monofocal, multifocal as well as toric intraocular lens implantation surgery.

My ophthalmic plastic surgery special expertise is in blepharoplasty surgery (which is removal of excess skin from upper and lower eyelids), droopy eyelid surgery, in turning or out turning of eyelids surgery and removal of cancers and lumps around eyelids. I am also proficient in surgery for watery eyes, orbital and socket surgery. I also offer oculo-facial rejuvenation treatments (tear trough fillers).

I graduated from the University of Pune, India in 1996 and trained extensively in Ophthalmology in India, UK and USA. I completed my Adnexal (Oculoplastics, Lacrimal and Orbital) Fellowship from the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and Ocular Oncology Fellowship from Cleveland Clinic, USA. In the capacity of a Consultant Ophthalmologist, I worked initially at Bristol Eye Hospital before joining Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield in 2010.

In the NHS, I am the Clinical lead and MDT chair for Sheffield Ocular Oncology Service, which is one of the three National Ocular Oncology Centres in England. I formulated the NICE accredited Uveal Melanoma National Guidelines as a core member of melanoma focus expert group and is on the clinical advisory panel of OcuMel, the patient support group.

I am also the regional orbital lead for South Yorkshire. I have set up a successful joint thyroid clinic with Dr Amit Allahabadia, Consultant Endocrinologist and an equally pioneering joint orbital trauma clinic with the Mr Nicholas Lee, Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. I have brought innovative ideas to the department like use of the cone beam CT scan for thyroid patients and novel surgical techniques like optic nerve sheath fenestration, on which is a leading authority.

I find research very stimulating and rewarding which is reflected in my extensive list of publications, posters and oral presentations in national and international meetings. I am regularly invited as a key note speaker at prestigious meetings. I am involved with the National 100K genome project and on the editorial board of Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.

I enjoy teaching and am the Director of the Fellowship Programme in Ocular Oncology and Oculoplastics in Sheffield in addition to being an educational supervisor to Specialty trainees in Ophthalmology. I organise the yearly Sheffield Final FRCOphth Preparatory Course, which has been successfully running for the past six years and has helped numerous trainee doctors pass the final examination before they become qualified Consultant Ophthalmologists. I am a Visiting Professor to Trinidad Eye Hospital and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer to the University of Sheffield.

I believe in giving back to the underprivileged and needy community and am involved in voluntary ophthalmic work in other developing nations such as Trinidad and Tobago and India. I am regularly involved in charity cataract and oculoplastic eye camps through which I have performed 100s of surgeries free of cost.

My sporting passion is cricket and is a key founding member of the Sheffield Medics Cricket Club currently placed in the 1st division of the Yorkshire and Derbyshire league.
