Specialises in

I am a Consultant General Surgeon at the Northern General Hospital, with a busy private practice at Claremont. I specialise in general, upper gastrointestinal and obesity (bariatric/weight loss) surgery. I also see patients for general and gastrointestinal surgical problems including oesophagogastric cancer, reflux disease, gallstones and hernias.

My surgical practice offers a full range of weight loss procedures including laparoscopic gastric banding, laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and complex revisional surgery. I have one of the busiest bariatric practices in the country, having treated over 4,750 obesity patients.

I trained in obesity surgery in Sheffield and Adelaide together with visits to various European centres in Brussels, Lyon and Gothenburg to learn new techniques. I am a past President of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) and sits on various NHS advisory groups.

My research interests include ablation therapy for Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer, clinical trials comparing different types of anti-reflux surgery and the metabolic effects of obesity surgery.
