I am a Consultant General Surgeon at the Northern General Hospital, with a busy private practice at Claremont. I specialise in general and upper gastrointestinal surgery. I see patients for general and gastrointestinal surgical problems including gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, gallstones and hernias. I also offer upper GI endoscopy (gastroscopy).

I trained in surgery in Sheffield and Adelaide together with visits to various European centres in Brussels, Lyon and Gothenburg to learn new techniques. I am a member of the Association of Upper GI Surgery (AUGIS) and the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS). I am Past-President of the latter. I also sit on various NHS advisory groups.

My research interests include ablation therapy for Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer, clinical trials comparing different types of anti-reflux surgery and the metabolic effects of obesity surgery.
