Welcome Lucy Kember – new Soft Tissue Therapist at Perform Cardiff

15 October 2019

Please join us in welcoming our new Soft Tissue Therapist Lucy Kember to Perform Cardiff!

Lucy is extremely excited to join the team at Spire and aims to provide specialist soft tissue treatment to a wide range of patients with varying needs. Using her extensive sport-based knowledge and working alongside the Spire Perform team, she will offer individual and tailored services to help facilitate the successful rehabilitation and prevention of injury.

Lucy has spent the last nine years predominantly working in the professional sport sector, providing specialist soft tissue and rehabilitation treatment to a variety of sports teams including WRU Senior Men’s National Squad, Scarlets RFC, Welsh Female Netball Senior Squad and the Celtic Dragons Netball Team.

John Barclay, Scarlets and Scottish international rugby player said: “In my 11 years of professional rugby, Lucy is the most professional and thorough sports therapist I have worked with. I joined Scarlets after having a shoulder reconstruction and required treatment on a weekly basis since. Lucy worked through my shoulder in a systematic approach taking her time to ensure my shoulder was ready for the weekend’s game."

He continued, “Lucy always aims to not only cure my symptoms, but also looks to get to the underlying cause of the problem. The combination of manual and rehab skills has left my shoulder in a much better condition than it was before the operation. I have only ever found Lucy to be highly motivated, enthusiastic and professional when working with me.”

In addition to her work with sports teams, Lucy has also treated private clients with a range of injuries and issues, priding herself on looking more holistically at her patients, looking at all possible causes to ensure her treatment is solution focused.

Lucy has recently focused her time on furthering her academic profile, having completed her MSc in Sports Therapy in 2015, and is now studying for a PhD concentrating on ACL injuries in female netballers. While Lucy dedicates herself to achieving her own academic goals, she also lectures full-time at Cardiff Metropolitan University to sports massage and rehabilitation students.
