Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital awarded gold status by the National Joint Registry for 2025

16 December 2025

Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital is proud to announce that it has been awarded gold level status by the National Joint Registry (NJR) for 2025. The award recognises the hospital’s outstanding commitment to patient safety and the consistent delivery of high-quality data.

The Gold award is part of the NJR’s Quality Data Provider scheme, which celebrates hospitals that demonstrate excellence in collecting and submitting complete, accurate and timely data for joint replacement procedures. This data plays a critical role in helping the NJR monitor the performance of hip, knee, ankle, shoulder and elbow joint replacements, supporting continuous improvements in care standards across the UK.

Each year, the NJR conducts a comprehensive data quality audit, comparing the number of procedures carried out at each hospital with the number submitted to the registry. Achieving gold status means Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital met or exceeded the NJR’s highest benchmarks for accuracy, completeness and compliance—ensuring that the registry can capture a full and reliable picture of joint replacement activity.

Sara Morgan, Director of Clinical Services at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital said: “This award is a testament to the dedication, precision and teamwork demonstrated every day by our clinical and administrative teams. Patient safety sits at the heart of everything we do at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital. Working closely with the NJR allows us to continually evaluate and enhance our outcomes and we are delighted to have achieved gold status again for 2025. My sincere thanks go to all colleagues who contributed to this achievement, which supports the highest standards of care for every joint replacement patient.”

The NJR also records data for robotic surgery, an increasingly popular option for patients needing joint replacement surgery and an option available at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital.

Mako is a state-of-the-art robotic-arm used by a highly qualified team of surgeons to improve the accuracy of hip, knee and partial knee replacement surgeries. Compared to traditional surgery, Mako robot-assisted surgery has been proven to significantly reduce pain after surgery, allow a faster recovery in early knee movement and perform joint replacement surgery with 2–3 times the accuracy.

Mr Tim Wilton, Medical Director of the National Joint Registry, added: “I would like to congratulate Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital on achieving gold in the NJR Quality Data Provider scheme. Accurate and complete registry data is vital for safeguarding patient outcomes and driving improvements in orthopaedic care. Awards such as this highlight Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital’s strong commitment to data quality and patient safety.”

The gold award reflects the hospital’s sustained focus on quality assurance and reinforces its position as a leading provider of safe, effective joint replacement surgery.
