Mr Saiful Miah

Consultant Urologist

MB ChB BSc (Hons) PhD FRCS (Urol)

I was appointed as a consultant urologist in 2020 with a sub-specialist interest in prostate cancer. I would be considered as a high-volume robotic surgeon having performed over 300 radical robotic prostatectomy cases.

I am a Royal College of Surgeons (Eng.) Fellowship trained robotic surgeon using the da-Vinci platform. I was awarded my PhD (University of Sheffield) on an oncology themed basic science thesis. During my senior higher surgical training, I was a NIHR academic clinical lecturer (University College London).

My NHS practice is based in Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrookes) where I provide tertiary prostate cancer services and surgery for patients in the East of England Cancer Network. I provide a comprehensive and contemporary evidence based practice and follow up for those patient who opt for Active Surveillance for their prostate cancer using a bespoke follow-up protocol based on the personal para-metrics of their disease.

I have a comprehensive and extensive general urology NHS practice which includes a wide range of presentations including lower urinary tract symptoms and inguino-scrotal conditions.

My non-clinical interest at work explores the environmental impact current urological care has and how we can implement a more carbon friendly/greener practice in healthcare.

In addition to my radical robotic prostatectomy practice I have performed over 500 prostate biopsies. I utilise the latest technology and platforms to safely deliver this diagnostic test (CamProbe and Precision-Point). I have an extensive academic research portfolio regarding the optimisation of transperineal prostate biopsy.

My general urological practice includes investigations of the bladder (cystoscopy) secondary to heamauturia (blood in the urine), surgery for scrotal swelling including hydrocele and epididymal cysts, circumcision surgery and surgery for male lower urinary tract symptoms due to an enlarged prostate such as TURP and REZUM.

Throughout my career I have developed and maintained an extensive academic profile. I have over 70 peer reviewed publications with over 2,500 citations of my work and awarded international recognition for the influence/impact my research has made. I have presented my work over 70 times primarily on a national or international platform.

I have been award numerous prizes for my work from well regarded governing bodies of urology and surgery including, British Association of Urological Surgeons. European Association of Urology. The Royal Society of Medicine and The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

I was awarded a Robotic Fellowship Award from European School of Urology to further enhance my robotic surgical training. I was honoured to be presented the The Urology Foundation Research Scholarship for 2 consecutive years which allowed me to extensively develop my research interests.
