Mr P Julian Owen

Following pre-clinical and clinical training at Trinity Hall and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, one of Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH), I spent my junior doctor years in Southampton, Birmingham and Oswestry, followed by the South West Thames Trauma and Orthopaedic Training Program (T&O). My fellowship year was with Dr Marvin Tile at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto

I’ve been a consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at CUH since 2000. My clinical work has consolidated to elective hip and knee surgery.

I’ve spent several years in management roles including T&O Speciality Lead and Musculoskeletal Clinical Director (MSK) at CUH, a Regional role as NHS England (NHSE), Orthopaedics Joint Clinical Lead, East of England and continue as MSK Clinical Lead for the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (C&P ICS). I served as British Orthopaedic Directors Society President (BODS) 2018-2020, representing BODS at the British Orthopaedic Association Council (BOA) 2018-2020, the BOA Orthopaedic Committee 2020-2022, and currently on the BOA Board of Specialist Societies. I’m the C&P ICS, secondary care representative, as a Core20PLUS5 Ambassador for the National Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Programme.

Research interests include the role of nutrition in disease, developing this as Chair of an international group of clinicians and academics interested in Vitamin B12, ‘cluB-12’. Collaborations within cluB-12 have led to important projects and publications in the B12 field.
