Professional profile

I cover all aspects of adult Rheumatology including inflammatory arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, connective tissue diseases, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Sjogren’s syndrome, systemic sclerosis, osteoarthritis, gout, polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) & giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis or GCA), fibromyalgia, metabolic bone diseases, osteoporosis & osteomalacia, back pain, and soft tissue rheumatism which includes tendonitis, tenosynovitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, plantar fasciitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Procedures include joint and soft tissue injections as well as nerve conduction studies for carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar nerve entrapment. I perform musculoskeletal ultrasound in the context of early inflammatory arthritis.

I am now an Independent Consultant Rheumatologist and Physician with 18 years’ experience as an NHS Consultant in Rheumatology. Whilst working for the NHS at Medway Hospital, I was the lead clinician for the Rheumatology Department for seven years and also the Clinical Director for Planned Specialty Medicine that included Rheumatology, Dermatology, Neurology and GU Medicine.

I am accredited for medico-legal reports and prepare reports for musculoskeletal personal injury such as whiplash, neck pain, back pain, tendonitis and fibromyalgia.

I qualified in Medicine at the University of Southampton in 1990. As part of my early career I quickly developed an interest in Rheumatology and went on to specialize in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine which included training in the prestigious Rheumatology units of Guy’s, St Thomas’ and St George’s Hospitals.

I qualified with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Warwick in 2010.
