BSc, MBBS, FRCP
Specialises in
I completed my undergraduate medical training at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1993. and during this time, obtained a BSc in Biochemistry funded by a Medical Research Council Award.
After general medical training, I underwent specialist training in Gastroenterology in around London and the South East. My final years of specialist training were at Guys and St Thomas' Hospitals and Kings College Hospital. Several years were spent at the Rayne Institute at St Thomas' Hospital in research on intestinal iron absorption and microscopy. I also received training in the care of complex inflammatory bowel disease and the conduct of clinical trials which I still participate in. I was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in Worthing Hospital in 2004. I sit on the specialist training committee for Gastroenterology for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery and am actively involved in the training of junior doctors, medical students and specialist nurses.
I have extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of most gastrointestinal disorders of the oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestine. The nature of my NHS and private practice workload means that I am experienced in seeing patients with a wide range of complaints not limited to indigestion, swallowing issues, acid reflux, abdominal pain or bloating, constipation, diarrhoea and rectal bleeding. I am also a very experienced endoscopist who performs upper gut endoscopy (OGD), flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy. My subspecialty interest is in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease including Crohns disease, ulcerative colitis and microscopic colitis.
I have been practising upper and lower GI endoscopy for over 22 years at consultant level and heavily involved in endoscopy training. In an average year, I complete between 120-150 colonoscopy procedures and 200 upper GI endoscopy (OGD) procedures. I practice in both NHS and private hospitals.
I founded and am the clinical lead for inflammatory bowel disease services for Worthing Hospital and lead endoscopy trainer for Worthing Hospital.
