I qualified as a dentist from the internationally renowned College of Dental Surgery in Manipal, India in 1992. Following this I undertook postgraduate training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at King George's Medical College in Lucknow, India. I did clinical research on the release and reconstruction of TMJ ankylosis in children while training as a resident and was awarded MDS (OMFS) from Lucknow in 1997. I then went on to teach oral and maxillofacial surgery as an Assistant Professor at the College of Dental Surgery in Mangalore, India, before moving to the UK to pursue further training in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
I completed medical training from the University of Birmingham as a graduate mature student in 2004 and after completing house jobs undertook basic surgical training in the West Midlands in trauma, orthopaedics, general surgery and intensive and critical care. I was then appointed to the West Midlands Higher Surgical Training Programme where I received training in the entire breadth of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
I spent two years at the University Hospital Birmingham which houses the Royal College of Defence Medicine and is a pioneering centre for cranio-maxillofacial trauma and deformity reconstructive surgery in the UK. I was selected for the Cranio-Maxillofacial Trauma and Orthognathic Surgery Fellowship sponsored by AOCMF Foundation which I undertook in the highly reputed department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Albert Ludwigs University in Freiberg, Germany.
My main clinical interest and remit is facial deformity and orthognathic surgery. Along with my orthodontic colleagues I offer a modern state of the art orthognathic surgery service utilising latest techniques including patient specific planning and hardware using 3D planning and printing technologies. I have performed over 5,000 oral surgical procedures since March 2012; over 250 facial deformity and facial cosmetic procedures since March 2012; over 500 facial trauma and emergency procedures; over 50 salivary gland procedures.
I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and hold the position of Examiner for the Royal Colleges of England and Edinburgh.
I have presented at various national and international meetings and published widely in indexed journals. I am an active Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support and European Trauma Course Instructor. I also organise and teach on maxillofacial courses nationally and abroad.
I only accept patients with GP/GDP referrals accompanied by appropriate imaging if available. I do not accept referrals for complaints like facial pain and patients should best choose to see an appropriate specialist with an interest in this area. Please call 01702 447 926 for more information.
