Professional profile

I qualified as a dentist from the internationally renowned College of Dental Surgery in Manipal, India in 1992. Following this I undertook postgraduate training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at King Georges Medical College in Lucknow, India. I did clinical research on the release and reconstruction of TMJ ankylosis in children while training as a resident and was awarded MDS(OMFS) from the University of Lucknow in 1997. I went on to teach oral and maxillofacial surgery as Assistant Professor at the College of Dental Surgery in Mangalore, India, before moving to the UK to pursue further training. After moving to the UK, I completed my medical training at the University of Birmingham in 2004.

I undertook basic surgical training in the West Midlands in trauma, orthopaedics, general surgery and intensive and critical care. I was then appointed to the West Midlands Higher Surgical Training Programme where I received training in the entire range of oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures. During this training, I spent two years at the University Hospital Birmingham, which houses the Royal College of Defence Medicine and is a pioneering centre for cranio-maxillofacial trauma, deformity and reconstructive surgery. I was selected for the CranioMaxillofacial Trauma and Orthognathic Surgery Fellowship, sponsored by AOCMF Foundation. I undertook this fellowship in the highly reputed department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Albert Ludwigs University in Freiberg, Germany.

I treat patients with any oral and maxillofacial surgical problem. My main areas of practice are jaw deformity correction (both birth and acquired deformities); problems with salivary glands; facial skin lesions; lumps and bumps of the head and neck including those inside the mouth; difficult teeth extractions including impacted wisdom teeth and procedures to improve oral rehabilitation using dentures and implants.

I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and hold the position of Examiner with the Colleges of England and Edinburgh. I have presented at various national and international meetings and published widely in indexed journals. I am a very active Advanced Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life support and European Trauma Course Instructor. I also organise and teach on maxillofacial courses in the UK and abroad. I always aim for clinical excellence and to give the best care possible with honesty, empathy and understanding to every patient.

Mr Bhatt welcomes appropriate patients wishing to refer and pay for treatment themselves without the need for a GP's letter of referral. Please call 01702 447 926 for more information. Mr Bhatt is available for appointments on Monday mornings.

Personal Profile

I am married to Purnima, an orthodontist, and we have a young son. I try hard to balance my time between home and work. My favourite activity in the week is reading stories (or making them up) with my son. In my spare time I like to travel, cycle, play golf, ski, learn languages and explore World War 2 history. I am fluent in seven Indian languages, French and Italian and am currently learning Spanish. I am also a qualified private pilot.
