Mr Bruno Lorenzi
Consultant General, Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon
"At Spire Wellesley Hospital, the staff are always friendly, polite and professional. The facilities are brilliant and the care provided to patients is excellent."
I offer laparoscopic weight loss surgery as well as general and upper GI surgery at Spire Wellesley Hospital. My specialty is laparoscopic “keyhole” surgery for weight loss as well as gallstones, hernias, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn) and cancer of the stomach and oesophagus (gullet).
I have specific interests in laparoscopic “keyhole” weight loss and upper GI surgery, day case surgery and upper GI endoscopy. I have performed over 4,000 operations with great success and have received excellent feedback from my patients.
I qualified with honours at the University of Siena, in Italy (the eighth oldest University in the World, founded in 1240) and gained experience in Laparoscopic and General Surgery in renowned centres in USA (Cleveland Clinic in Florida), France (Istitut Paoli-Calmettes in Marseille), and in the UK (Oxford and Leeds).
I received a four-year research grant from the University of Siena, and achieved my PhD in Oncology and Genetics and the title of “Doctor Europaeus” in 2012 in collaboration with the University of Oxford. My research work has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals, and I have been an invited speaker at national and international meetings.
I have completed prestigious Fellowships in Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer Surgery at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, and in Laparoscopic Bariatric (weight loss) and Metabolic Surgery at the Imperial College in London. I have given teaching sessions on minimally invasive and weight loss surgery at Anglia Ruskin University and Imperial College in London. I currently work as Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford (part of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust).
I enjoy working together with the bariatric and weight loss team at Spire Wellesley Hospital. We will give you an honest opinion regarding your suitability for surgery, putting your wellbeing and safety first. We will help you in understanding if weight loss surgery is appropriate for you and choosing the most appropriate type of procedure and anaesthetic for your surgery. We will assist and prepare you for your operation, and look after you during and after surgery to optimize the results of your operation.
