Making a referral guide

We are committed to supporting healthcare professionals and aim to make the referral process quick and easy.

Every consultant who works at Spire St Anthony’s Hospital is on the specialist register of the General Medical Council and has met our robust practising privileges criteria. We know that continuity of care is important. Once a patient has chosen their consultant, we will make sure that they are looked after by the same consultant, from the first appointment and throughout all treatment and follow-up care. 

All of our nurses are highly qualified and dedicated to caring for patients in a professional manner. For ultimate reassurance, we have a fully trained clinical team equipped to deal with any medical emergencies 24 hours a day.

How to make a referral (private patients)

Our Primary Care Liaison team will work closely with you, to help provide the highest level of service. Our Purpose is to make a positive difference to people’s lives through outstanding personalised care.

There are a number of ways to refer your private patients to Spire St Anthony’s Hospital:

Online referrals

Spire Connect

Spire Connect is the quickest way to make a referral. The patient e-referral portal offers a fast, easy and fully secure way for GPs, practice staff and healthcare professionals to refer patients to Spire hospitals. As well as making secure online referrals for a broad range of treatments and tests and scans, you can also:

  • Receive email confirmations – once your referral is submitted and processed
  • Access sent referral information – at any time
  • Find direct up to date contact information
  • Save time and paper – it’s environmentally friendly

You can use Spire Connect to refer your patient and our dedicated team will contact your patient to discuss consultants, times and dates.

Patients with private medical insurance

A referral letter is generally required from you before any insured patient can be seen by a consultant. Patients can call our bookings team on 020 8335 4678 to arrange a convenient appointment. You need to advise your patient that they will need to contact their insurer to make sure they are covered for their appointment to see their chosen consultant.

The bookings team will update you on your patient’s progress.

Self-funding patients

Self-funding patients are able to be seen by a consultant without a GP referral, although a letter is preferred. We can provide a tailored fixed price inclusive care package with no hidden extras on a range of diagnostic tests, treatments and surgical procedures. NHS referrals

Referrals for NHS patients can be sent through the online e-referral service (formerly choose and book) by visiting This is the best practice for us to receive NHS referrals, as patients will receive appointments in a timely manner and it is an efficient system.

Referrals can be emailed to or submitted online via the NHS e-Referral service. When sending an email, please make sure to state that the referral is NHS and provide a recent relevant medical history.
