Mr Timothy Jones
MBBS, BSc, FRCS(SN) PhD
I am a Consultant Neurosurgeon specialising in Neuro-Oncological Surgery and facial pain as well as all aspects of general Neurosurgery (including spinal surgery).
My areas of interest include: surgery for brain tumours (especially low-grade gliomas), awake surgery, meningiomas, glioblastoma and cerebral metastases, microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm, hydrocephalus, sciatica, spinal stenosis, arm pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and back pain.
My approach to the management of brain tumours focuses on providing each patient with as much information as possible so that we can tailor a treatment to suit each individual. This requires acquisition of brain scans (such as CT and MRI scans), neurological examination and in some cases formal visual testing, neuropsychological testing and speech and language assessment. Each case is reviewed in a specialist multi-disciplinary meeting (MDT) which is attended by surgeons, neurologists, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and so forth.
I provide surgery with patients asleep and in some cases awake surgery for patients with tumours located in high risk brain regions (eg close to speech and motor cortex).
I am the lead clinician for the regional Neuro-Oncology multidisciplinary team and the deputy Clinical Director of Cancer Services at St George’s Hospital. I have an active research in Advanced MRI scanning of brain tumours and I am an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Timothy Jones at Spire include:
Spire St Anthony's Hospital is only able to provide Covid-19 tests to patients undergoing surgery at our hospital. Covid-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service.
