Dr Osman Najam

Consultant Cardiologist

MBChB, PhD, MRes, MRCP

I am a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist with over 15 years’ experience. I provide private cardiology care for patients seeking clear advice, prompt investigations and high-quality treatment for heart-related symptoms. I commonly see patients with chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness, blackouts and high blood pressure, as well as those seeking reassurance or a second opinion. I specialise in the assessment and treatment of coronary artery disease, including coronary angiography and stent procedures, and manage both straightforward and complex heart conditions.

I focus on timely access to care, same-week investigations where possible, and a personalised approach tailored to each patient’s concerns. I take time to listen carefully, explain findings in clear and understandable terms, and ensure patients feel fully informed and supported when making decisions about their care.

Patients value my calm, thorough and reassuring manner, particularly when dealing with worrying symptoms or uncertainty. I work closely with experienced diagnostic and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, consultant-led care, with a strong emphasis on clinical governance, patient safety and high professional standards throughout the patient journey.

I practise across the full range of adult cardiology, with specialist expertise in interventional cardiology. I assess and treat patients with chest pain, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, palpitations, breathlessness, blackouts and dizziness, as well as those seeking reassurance or a second opinion. I regularly perform coronary angiography, angioplasty and stent procedures, and manage both simple and complex coronary disease.

Alongside interventional work, I provide comprehensive diagnostic and preventative cardiology, including cardiovascular risk assessment, long-term prevention of heart disease, and the medical management of heart conditions. I also assess and manage heart rhythm problems, review cardiac test results, and coordinate further investigations where needed to ensure an accurate diagnosis and clear treatment plan. My approach is to offer the most appropriate treatment for each patient, whether that involves medication, intervention, lifestyle advice or ongoing monitoring.

To date, I have performed over 5,000 coronary angiography and angioplasty (stent) procedures across NHS and private practice, including the assessment and treatment of complex coronary artery disease. My experience covers both planned and urgent cardiology care, from the investigation of chest pain through to intervention, medical treatment and long-term follow-up.

I routinely use modern, evidence-based techniques to support accurate diagnosis and safe treatment, including advanced coronary imaging and contemporary interventional methods where appropriate. This allows procedures to be carefully tailored to each patient, helping to optimise outcomes while avoiding unnecessary intervention.

Alongside my procedural work, I have extensive experience managing patients with a wide range of heart conditions, including high blood pressure and heart rhythm problems. I regularly provide second opinions for patients seeking clarity or reassurance about their diagnosis or treatment options. Throughout my practice, I place a strong emphasis on patient safety, clinical governance and delivering high-quality, consultant-led care.

Alongside my clinical work, I have a strong interest in the use of modern medical technology to improve diagnostic accuracy, patient safety and access to care. I am particularly interested in how digital tools and advanced diagnostics can support clearer decision-making, reduce unnecessary testing and enhance the overall patient experience.

I am actively involved in multidisciplinary working and service development within cardiology, with a focus on improving clinical pathways and delivering efficient, patient-centred care. I also contribute to teaching and professional development, supporting junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals to maintain high clinical standards and evidence-based practice.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three daughters, and family life is very important to me. I am a regular gym user and try to maintain an active lifestyle, enjoying padel, football, golf and tennis when time allows. I believe strongly in the value of regular exercise, balance and wellbeing, and aim to practise the same healthy lifestyle principles that I encourage in my patients.
