Podiatry and gait analysis

At Perform we provide a centre of foot care excellence

Podiatry or podiatric medicine is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremity.

At Perform we provide a centre of foot care excellence with a friendly and caring environment, obtained by combining highly experienced podiatrists with the latest technology.

Treatment is supplied with enthusiasm and commitment to all ages and all levels of activity. Our patients include professional athletes, premiership footballers, county cricketers, junior elite sports participants, triathletes, walkers, golfers and recreational runners.

We also offer joint assessments with our podiatrists and specialist foot and ankle physiotherapists.

If required, custom foot orthotics are made while you wait in our orthotic laboratory so you can leave with your newly made orthotics at the end of your appointment.  These are made using the most up to date video and foot scanning equipment.

What can be treated?

Common chronic foot related conditions and sports injuries treated include:

  • Metatarsalgia
  • Morton’s Neuroma
  • Plantar fasciitis / Chronic plantar heel pain
  • Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction
  • Adult flat foot
  • Shin splints
  • Anterior knee pain syndrome
  • Iliotibial band syndrome
  • Arthritic feet and ankles
  • Paediatric flat foot and gait problems

We also hold multidisciplinary clinics where gait analysis is reviewed with physiotherapists and orthopaedic surgeons.

The assessment

We can provide a full assessment of your walking and running pattern, using a treadmill, high speed digital camera footage, specialised software and a pressure mat system in our biomechanical gait assessment laboratory.

The assessment also includes movement screening and assessment of strength & range of motion appropriate to the gait analysis findings.

A plan of how to best improve the things identified will be discussed with you during the assessment and recommendations of further care required will be offered.

Our physiotherapists and podiatrists work closely together in the gait lab and have easy access to our consultants if they feel such input would be appropriate.
