Mr Werner Struss

I am a consultant urological surgeon with a subspecialist focus on prostate cancer screening and advanced prostate cancer diagnostics. This includes utilisation of MRI, transperineal and fusion prostate biopsies as well as minimally invasive focal prostate cancer treatment modalities like High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). I offer a broad spectrum of international urological expertise with a subspecialist interest in benign prostate conditions and prostate cancer care.

I now also offer Aquablation therapy, a minimally invasive treatment combining robotic technology to guide a heat-free waterjet for precise tissue removal providing, consistent and long-term relief of an enlarged prostate (BPH). Aquablation therapy also carries a low risk of common side effects typically associated with alternative BPH treatments, such as loss of sexual function and incontinence.

I enjoy the management of common urological conditions that affect both men and women including lower urinary tract symptoms, and recurrent urinary tract infections in addition to penoscrotal conditions like phimosis, hydroceles and epididymal cysts.

I am also experienced in High Dose Brachytherapy application and administration of peri-rectal spacing agents prior to planned external beam radiotherapy for prostate cancer including Barrigel and SpaceOAR.

My aim is to convey the need for a balanced cancer care approach that is individualised and most suitable to your needs.

I am also a founder of the Winchester Prostate Clinic.

I trained at the University of Hamburg Medical School in Germany with placements in Zurich and Guilford, thereafter completing my Specialist Urological Training in Hamburg in 2014. I obtained a Medical Doctorate from the University of Berlin, Charite for research on acute vascular toxicity of chemotherapy in testicular cancer patients and a PhD from the University of Portsmouth for translational medicine in common urologic cancers following my uro-oncological research fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 2018.

I have several high-impact peer-reviewed publications and accolades for my research work to date and have completed book chapters on uro-oncological topics.

I am a Fellow of the European Board of Urology and a Fellow of the European Committee on Sexual Medicine. Since 2018 I have worked at the University Hospital of Southampton also becoming an Honorary Senior Lecturer before taking up my post at the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust in 2022.
