Dr Trevor Smith

I was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2006, initially in Bournemouth, followed by a move to Southampton in 2010. I look after patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal problems, and have a sub-specialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease, clinical nutrition and intestinal failure. I am a highly experienced endoscopist, regularly performing gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy procedures.

I have a national and international reputation for leading and delivering specialist Gastroenterology services, with a particular focus on clinical nutrition and intestinal failure. I led the development of a large regional specialised service in Southampton, and supported the NHS to develop and deliver these services nationally. I am the longest serving President of the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) from 2018 to 2013.

Now I spend much of my professional time in senior leadership roles in the NHS, supporting the delivery of high quality healthcare across the south of England.
