I have been a consultant interventional cardiologist in Southampton since June 2008. Prior to this I was a locum consultant cardiologist at the Hammersmith Hospital in West London following my registrar training in the North West Thames rotational training scheme. From October 2005-2006 I did a fellowship with the renowned pioneer of interventional cardiology, Dr Antonio Colombo at San Raffaele and Centro Cuore Columbus Hospitals in Milan, Italy.
I specialise in all aspects of coronary artery angioplasty and stent implantation and frequently use adjunctive techniques such as coronary pressure wire (FFR), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and rotablation to guide and optimise treatment. In addition to treating coronary artery disease, I also see and assess patients with all aspects of general cardiology conditions including heart valve problems, heart failure and heart rhythm disorders.
I routinely perform more than 100 coronary angioplasty/stent and 200 angiogram procedures per year. Outcomes following my coronary intervention cases are publicly available at: http://www.bcis.org.uk/pages/page_box_contents.asp?pageid=805&navcatid=157
I am Director of Clinical Effectiveness at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to my routine clinical work, I am a member of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) standing committees B and C for guidelines updates, working to ensure that NICE guidelines are relevant and up-to-date.
I have a longstanding interest in research, from my PhD in antibody engineering with Sir Greg Winter FRS at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, through to ongoing participation in multi-centre randomised clinical trials in the Wessex Cardiothoracic Centre in Southampton. I have published numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals on outcomes with drug-eluting stents in humans and also presented my research at national and international meetings.

Outside of medicine, I am a keen musician and I met my violinist wife while playing the flute in the Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra. I wish I had more time to prevent ongoing deterioration in the standard of my piano playing. More recently, I have joined the choir of Romsey's beautiful Norman Abbey as a tenor. sons.
