- Patient celebrates full recovery from carpal tunnel syndrome following keyhole surgery at Spire Parkway Hospital
Anne Hemming underwent keyhole surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome at Spire Parkway Hospital after experiencing worsening pain, pins and needles, and numbness in her fingers, which began to interfere with her daily activities and work as a medical secretary. Having private medical insurance through her employer, Anne chose to have treatment privately at Spire Parkway Hospital under the care of Consultant Hand, Wrist, and Elbow Surgeon, Mr Feiran Wu, who specialises in keyhole nerve release procedures.
Anne explained:
“I had seen Mr Wu previously and was very happy with my treatment. When my symptoms started to worsen - with pins and needles, numbness and waking up at night - I decided to go ahead with surgery. I knew I would receive excellent care at Spire Parkway Hospital.”
Reflecting on her experience at the hospital, Anne praised the professionalism and support she received from the entire team.
“My surgery and hospital experience were faultless. Everyone I encountered was kind and understanding, and communication from the hospital was excellent,” she said. “I was booked to have a block anaesthetic and asked if I could also have sedation - this made all the difference for me. The whole experience went very smoothly, and I was well cared for by all the staff. The physiotherapist visited me after surgery, and I left hospital with clear follow-up plans and exercises.”
Since undergoing the procedure, Anne has made a full recovery within weeks and no longer experiences any symptoms, allowing her to work comfortably as a medical secretary and enjoy activities such as walking her dogs once again.
“The operation was a complete success. I no longer have carpal tunnel syndrome, no more pins and needles, and I don’t need a wrist splint. I noticed the improvement immediately after surgery. I feel very confident with Mr Wu - he is approachable and explained everything clearly. My experience was really good, and if needed in the future, I would definitely return to Spire Parkway Hospital.”

Mr Feiran Wu, Consultant Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgeon at Spire Parkway Hospital said: “Ms Hemming’s case highlights how effective keyhole carpal tunnel surgery can be when performed promptly, and how quickly patients can recover with a keyhole approach. It’s incredibly rewarding to see patients regain comfort, confidence, and the ability to return to their daily activities so soon after this procedure.”
Emily Montgomery, Hospital Director at Spire Parkway Hospital, added: “We are delighted that Ms Hemming has had such a positive outcome. Our teams are dedicated to providing high-quality care and ensuring patients feel supported throughout their treatment journey. It’s always encouraging to hear how our care helps patients return to normal life symptom-free.”
