Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Robert Wears at Spire include:
General Medicine, Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Gastroenterology
I was appointed to my current role as Consultant Physician in October 1994. I participate in the acute medical rota at Solihull hospital (1:11 acute medical take) and provide two medical clinics per week. I provide a full range of acute, rehabilitation and domiciliary consultation services for the elderly residents of the borough. I have developed a specialist interest clinic in Parkinson‘s disease based at the Medical Day Hospital and provide medical input to the delirium and dementia outreach team and the dementia discharge to assess beds at Arden Lea Grove. I am fully trained in diagnostic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy techniques.
I am responsible for providing consultant support to the general medical take at Solihull Hospital, and therefore have extensive experience in managing the common medical emergencies (for example acute coronary syndromes, strokes, chest infections, asthma, delirium). I provide an expert medical opinion for the management of complex Parkinson’s disease and I provide a full range of acute, rehabilitation and domiciliary consultation services for the elderly residents of the borough. I provide a regular NHS endoscopy list at Solihull Hospital carrying out gastroscopies, sigmoidoscopies and colonoscopies.
Over my career I estimate that I have carried out several hundred diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
I am currently the Site Lead for Geriatric Medicine, Solihull Hospital

I have a longstanding interest in computing, dating back to an old BBC Model B microcomputer. I used to contribute regularly to Archive magazine, and have written several small utility programs which have been published (in Archive, Risc User and Public Domain). However, increasing time demands from my NHS and HEWM roles have limited my involvement in this area over the past few years.
At home we are puppy walkers for Guide Dogs. We take on a seven to eight week old puppy and train them for approximately fourteen months, after which they leave us to go on to additional training as guide dogs, medical detection dogs or buddy dogs. The pain of losing them is eased by having our own dog.
House purchase necessitated my developing interests in D.I.Y. and gardening (although the latter is at present limited to purely "manual" skills!).Back to top
