Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant in ear, nose and throat problems for people of all ages, from babies to adults. With more than 20 years of ENT experience, I help patients feel better and return to enjoying life without pain, hearing difficulties or breathing problems. I see private patients at Spire Nottingham Hospital. My NHS work is conducted in Nottingham and surrounding hospitals. Many other ENT doctors send their trickiest cases to me for a second opinion or more complex treatment, including professional athletes and musicians who need reliable care to keep performing at their best.
My clinical expertise includes the management of snoring and sleep-related disorders, particularly in children, as well as ear conditions such as infections, glue ear, hearing loss, tinnitus and balance disorders. I treat nasal and sinus conditions including nasal obstruction, allergies and sinusitis, alongside throat and tonsillar disorders. I also undertake hearing implant surgery and advanced ear procedures. I have a particular interest in paediatric ENT and in adult and paediatric ear and hearing disorders, including complex ear surgery, balance disorders and neurotology.
I trained in medicine at the University of Nottingham, before completing specialist ENT training across centres in London, Cambridge, Glasgow and Liverpool. This included a full year at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital focusing on complex paediatric ENT surgery. To gain further expertise, I undertook advanced training visits to Stanford University in California, the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles, and a specialist centre in Nijmegen in the Netherlands for complex ear surgery. I also completed a further year-long fellowship at the Ear and Skull Base Unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, specialising in hearing implants, chronic ear conditions, balance disorders and related nerve issues.
I'm passionate about improving care through research and teaching. I earned a Doctorate in Medicine while working in Cambridge (in partnership with the Medical Research Council) and won the Royal Society of Medicine research award in 2008. Today, my research happens at the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre. I've published over 40 articles in medical journals to help advance better treatments.
I hold an Honorary Assistant Professor role at the University of Nottingham, where I supervise students (including PhD and masters levels) and examine them. For five years, I was the East Midlands Director for ENT surgical training—overseeing the training of future consultant ENT surgeons across Nottingham, Derby, and Leicester to ensure high standards of safe, excellent care. I still run training courses for doctors, including a unique one on "Human Factors" to prevent errors in emergencies, and I speak at national and international conferences.
Helping people beyond the clinic is important to me. I founded Nottingham Ears, a charity that improves ear, nose, and throat care in the UK and in developing countries. I've taken part in ear camps in rural Nepal with the International Nepal Fellowship—experiences that remind me why I do this work.
Patients often say they appreciate my clear explanations, kind approach (especially with children), and focus on finding the right plan for them—whether that's simple advice, medication, or a procedure. You can see public feedback and my own results on my website: www.NottinghamENT.co.uk (happy to share more details on request).
If you're worried about an ear, nose, throat, hearing, balance, or snoring issue for yourself or your child, I'd be glad to help. Feel free to get in touch—I'm here to listen and support you every step of the way!
