On going chest pains despite 'normal 'results .A practical guide for GPs with Dr Vas Farooq , Consultant Cardiologist

This session will provide a practical, clinically focused approach to patients who continue to experience chest pain despite apparently normal initial investigations. It will explore why a “normal” ECG, troponin or coronary angiogram does not exclude a cardiac cause, and will introduce angina with non-obstructive coronary arteries (ANOCA), including microvascular and vasospastic angina.

The session will focus on recognising key clinical patterns in primary care, understanding when to suspect these conditions, and knowing when and how to refer for further assessment. It will also cover pragmatic management strategies that can be initiated in general practice, including symptom control, risk factor optimisation and patient reassurance.

By the end of the session, GPs will have greater confidence in managing patients with ongoing, unexplained chest pain, helping to reduce repeat attendances, unnecessary investigations and patient anxiety.
