I have been a Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust since 2006, having received my specialist training in Nottingham and Derby. I have had extensive clinical experience in all aspects of specialist Diabetes and Endocrinology  and have held several important clinical leadership roles to date.

I am the Head of Clinical Services at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Weight Management services since 2022.

I also have academic roles including Honorary Senior Lecturer for University of Leeds School of Medicine and the Undergraduate Placement Lead for Diabetes and Endocrinology for Medical Students from Leeds University. I am also Regional Specialty Advisor for Diabetes & Endocrinology for the Royal College of Physicians.

I have an active clinical research interest and have been principal investigator for several multinational commercial and academic clinical trials in diabetes, cardiovascular medicine and diabetic foot disease.

  • Clinical Excellence Award Level 5 (2016) and Local Clinical Excellence Award Level 3 (2019)
  • I led on the development of a Local MDT Diabetic Foot Protection Team awarded National Quality in Care Award Highly commended; September 2015

I have an active research interest and am an investigator for a number of commercial and academic clinical trials in diabetes, cardiovascular medicine and diabetic foot disease.

Some of my recent awards and achievements include: In recognition of my contribution to the development and delivery of local services I have achieved Local Clinical Excellence Award Level 5 in 2016. National Quality in Care Award (Highly commended; September 2015): I led on the development of a Local MDT Diabetic Foot Protection Team. This was set up to streamline patient referral pathways and minimise harmful delays in the patient journey.

  • Abnormal weight gain - clinical assessment and investigation for Endocrine explanations of this challenging problem, that are sometimes undiagnosed.
  • Adrenal – Adrenal insufficiency (Addisons), low cortisol, Adrenal adenoma (lumps), Adrenal Cushing’s, Hyperaldosteronism (Conn’s Syndrome)
  • Diabetes: I provide a comprehensive clinical assessment and advice on management including advice on new treatments and technologies and how these can be used to improve your diabetes and focus on a multi-strategic approach to improve outcomes. These are not restricted only to glucose management but also management of weight, hypertension, erectile dysfunction, kidney impairment, fatty liver and painful peripheral neuropathy that can affect the person with diabetes.
  • General Medical Conditions: As an experienced general physician, I can also see patients with a range of general internal medical issues such as abnormal weight loss or gain, unexplained collapses, non-specific tiredness and fatigue, breathlessness, syncope (fainting), electrolyte disturbances, to name a few.
  • Hormonal effects of anti-cancer treatments and their management.
  • Hypogonadism - including assessment, investigation and management of men with low testosterone levels.
  • Investigation and management of Hypertension including exclusion of underlying Endocrine causes.
  • Investigation of low blood glucose levels (hypoglycaemia)
  • Non-specific fatigue and tiredness to exclude underlying endocrine causes as these can sometimes be related.
  • Osteoporosis –prevention, investigation and management advice.
  • Parathyroid Disease – including investigation and management of patients with abnormalities with calcium and parathyroid hormone.
  • Pituitary Disease/ Conditions: (Prolactin abnormalities, Growth Hormone, Cushing’s, Hypopituitarism, Hypogonadism and Pituitary tumour clinical assessment and investigation)
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - assessment, investigation and management of women with suspected or known PCOS.
  • Problems with electrolyte disturbances including sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium related issues.
  • Problems with raised cholesterol (including familial hypercholesterolaemia screening), raised triglycerides and advice on management of cardiovascular risk.
  • Thyroid - all areas including hypothyroidism and its management including thyroxine replacement, auto-immune thyroid disease, management of Graves’ Disease (hyperthyroidism), thyroid nodules, goitre and advice on long term follow up.

In my free time I enjoy a spot of gardening and cooking exotic dishes. As a father of a 11 and a 13 year old I also run a demanding Dad's taxi service!
