How to make a referral

At Spire Manchester we are dedicated to delivering excellent individual care and customer service to all our patients, from the time they first get in touch with us until after their treatment is complete.

Our Primary Care Liaison team will work closely with you and our highly trained staff aim to deliver excellent patient care. We work to ensure every patient is treated as if they were our own relative.

There are a number of ways to refer your private patients to Spire Manchester Hospital:

Online referrals

Spire Connect

Spire Connect is the quickest way to make a referral. The patient e-referral portal offers a fast, easy and fully secure way for GPs, practice staff and healthcare professionals to refer patients to Spire hospitals. As well as making secure online referrals for a broad range of treatments and tests and scans, you can also:

  • Receive email confirmations – once your referral is submitted and processed
  • Access sent referral information – at any time
  • Find direct up to date contact information
  • Save time and paper – it’s environmentally friendly

If your patient has private medical insurance you can refer them to have their consultation and treatment at Spire Manchester Hospital.

A referral letter may be required by insurance companies. Please advise your patient to check with their insurer for any additional referral requirements.

In some cases a referral letter may be required by your patient's consultant. Please advise your patient to check for any referral requirements when booking their appointment.

If your patient would like to have their X-ray or scan at Spire Manchester Hospital you can refer them easily. We accept direct GP referrals for the following diagnostic tests:

  • Cardiac diagnostics:ECG, echo, ambulatory monitoring, CT coronary calcium score for heart disease
  • CT:sinus, brain
  • Ultrasound:musculoskeletal, abdomen, gynaecology, urology
  • X-ray:chest, suspected fracture

NHS referrals

Spire Manchester Hospital provides a range of elective surgical services to NHS patients – full details of the services offered can be found on the NHS e-Referral system www.ebs.ncrs.nhs.uk.

Our aim is to make the referral process as quick and easy as possible.

Please use the NHS e-Referral system to refer your patients to us. We are no longer able to accept referral letters from primary care or by any other means (eg fax or email).
