Our partnership with GenesisCare

The advanced radiotherapy techniques on offer at Spire Little Aston Hospital are provided by GenesisCare. The GenesisCare Birmingham centre is located in the same grounds providing easy access to both locations.

We work closely with GenesisCare's cancer care professionals to ensure continuity of care and easy access to the best facilities and medical teams for all your cancer treatment needs.

The expert teams at GenesisCare use some of the latest and most effective radiotherapy techniques available, including Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). These advancements in radiotherapy technology means tumours can be targeted with a very high degree of accuracy, avoiding damage to healthy tissue and organs which causes less expected side-effects than conventional radiotherapy.

New cooling treatment to work alongside chemotherapy

We're delighted to introduce a new feature to enhance comfort during your chemotherapy treatments, the Hilotherm hand and foot cooling system. This approach is designed to alleviate two common side effects of chemotherapy - chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) and hand-foot syndrome (HFS). These conditions can lead to ongoing pain, tingling, weakness, or numbness in your fingers and toes, which may persist for a prolonged period.

The underlying principle of this technology is straightforward yet effective. By cooling your hands and feet during treatment, the blood vessels constrict, reducing the amount of chemotherapy drugs reaching these areas and lessens the severity of peripheral neuropathy, a challenging side effect of chemotherapy. This method is like scalp cooling, used to prevent hair loss during chemotherapy by decreasing blood flow to the scalp.

By minimising the risks of CIPN and HFS, the cooling system not only makes your treatment more bearable but also helps maintain the effectiveness of your chemotherapy. This reduces the need for adjusting your treatment plan due to these side effects, potentially leading to better health outcomes.

We are proud to be the first private provider in the region to offer this service. If you're contemplating adding hand and foot cooling to your chemotherapy regimen or have any enquiries, our dedicated Lakeside Suite team is available to answer your questions.
