Specialises in
I am a Consultant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, with over seven years of experience in gastroenterology and hepatology and almost two years' experience as a consultant. Prior to joining Leicester, I worked as a Consultant at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.
I completed my specialist gastroenterology training in the East Midlands North Deanery, followed by advanced hepatology training at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and the Liver Transplant Centre in Leeds. I successfully passed the European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH) in 2022.
My specialist interests include all aspects of liver disease, including alcohol-related liver disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (fatty liver disease), viral hepatitis, cirrhosis and its complications, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), haemochromatosis and abnormal liver blood tests. I have a particular interest in the diagnosis and long-term management of chronic liver disease and currently contribute to the specialist viral hepatitis service at University Hospitals of Leicester. I personally perform, interpret and report FibroScan® examinations, providing a non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis and liver health.
I also manage the full spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders, including acid reflux, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), coeliac disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, bowel cancer assessment and nutritional disorders.
I am an experienced and skilled endoscopist, performing a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (gastroscopy), colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and polypectomy. I have performed well over 1,000 endoscopic procedures and am currently undertaking advanced training in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). I am JAG accredited and a JAG-approved Train the Trainer, actively teaching and mentoring doctors, nurses and endoscopy staff.
Alongside my clinical work, I have a strong interest in medical education, quality improvement and research, with experience in teaching, service development and peer-reviewed publications. I currently serve as the Hepatology Lead for the Haemophilia Gene Therapy Service at University Hospitals of Leicester.
I believe that excellent medical care begins with listening. I take time to understand each patient's concerns, explain diagnoses and treatment options clearly, and involve patients in every step of the decision-making process. My aim is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care while building trusted, long-term relationships with my patients.
