At Spire GP we provide quick and easy access to private GP services - when you need it. There are a range of Spire GP appointment times available, including same day, for both adults and children at Spire Leicester Hospital.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) information for patients and visitors

We do not offer Covid-19 testing as part of our private GP service.

We’ll be postponing some of our services in line with new clinical guidance. This will affect patients over the age of 70, those affected by an underlying health condition, pregnant, or anyone else who is offered a flu jab by the NHS.

Please do not book or attend an appointment if you have coronavirus symptoms - a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste and follow the current government advice about staying at home. Please read the latest coronavirus (COVID-19) information.

Virtual consultation appointments with a private GP

You will be offered a video appointment as most consultations are taking place as virtual appointments.

You'll be asked to list your symptoms as part of your booking and you will receive a call from us to discuss these before your appointment. If you need tests following your virtual consultation you might need to attend the hospital and you will be screened upon arrival.

Once you are ready to book an appointment, view the dates and times available. You can now book same day appointments online. If you couldn’t find a suitable time, call us on 0116 214 9972 to check availability.

Follow up appointments are not available to book online but you can contact the hospitals directly to arrange these.

We'll send a health questionnaire to save time on the day.

You'll have a 30 minute appointment giving you plenty of time to discuss your concerns and symptoms without feeling rushed.

As well as being close to the city centre, we're just seven miles from junction 21 of the M1 and easily accessible from the A47 and A6.

We're less than an hour's drive from Nottingham East Midlands and Birmingham International airports.

We're three miles (or a 15 minute cab ride) from Leicester railway station.

Does seeing a Spire GP affect my relationship with my NHS GP?

Having a Spire GP appointment does not result in any changes to the care you receive from your NHS GP and we recommend that you remain registered with your local NHS practice to ensure assistance in the event of a medical emergency.

Spire GP is not an alternative for emergency services

Please remember, Spire GP should not be seen as an alternative for emergency services. In the event of an emergency call 111 or 999 if you are within the United Kingdom.

What's included

In addition to the consultation with the GP, your appointment will also include where appropriate;

  • writing a private prescription
  • providing a referral to a Consultant
  • recommending and referring you for scans or X-rays and highlighting what other tests you may need.

You will be provided with an outcome letter detailing all of this and a copy will be sent to your NHS GP.

Any further investigations which you may require during or after your appointment, such as blood tests, scans, ECGs etc are not included in the cost of your appointment. Before any such tests are completed the GP will discuss with you why they think these tests should be carried out and the costs associated with them.

What's not

  • 24-hour health cover or emergency service
  • DVLA, visa or other specific medical checks
  • Repeat prescriptions, except where we have initiated treatment, or (exceptionally) in an emergency.
  • Minor surgery
  • Ongoing monitoring of long-term conditions where the NHS might be a more appropriate provider of this chronic disease management service.
  • To be treated for a reaction to any prescribed medication (this would be deemed an emergency
  • To routinely use the service for ‘sick’ notes for conditions Spire GP is not treating
  • We do not offer Covid-19 testing

What happens when I arrive for my appointment?

When you arrive at the Spire hospital for your Spire GP appointment we will take a card swipe from you to cover any additional costs of care in line with our patient terms. If you have not already received a health questionnaire you will be asked to complete one prior to seeing the GP.
