Shoulder surgeon Mr Ali Al-Sabti performs 1,000th operation

12 August 2014

Mr Ali Al-Sabti has performed his 1,000th shoulder operation at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood.

Mr Ali Al-Sabti has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon since 1995 working within the NHS, at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, and within his private practice in Essex.

He developed a special interest in arthroscopic surgery at an early stage in his career. As a result of his involvement in sport injuries he became interested in shoulder surgery in athletes, subsequently expanding into arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

At this time, arthroscopic surgery was a fairly new procedure and Mr Ali Al-Sabti was fortunate enough to be at a stage in his career where he could develop this further.

Arthroscopic surgery has several advantages over open procedures - the field of vision is magnified by about 20 times and thus more detail is available to the surgeon.

Shoulder problems continue to be Mr Ali Al-Sabti's main interest and he keeps up to date with the most recent developments in the field, attending courses across America and Europe. A number of his patients have travelled from as far as Gibraltar and Greece for surgery.

At Spire Hartswood Hospital, we know how painful and debilitating shoulder pain and shoulder injuries can be. Whatever your age, if you’re an otherwise active person, a damaged shoulder can really limit your activities.

That’s why our shoulder specialist surgeon, bone and joint radiologist, and specialist physiotherapists have teamed up to provide a shoulder clinic for patients from Brentwood, Chelmsford, Billericay, Romford and surrounding areas.
