I am a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon, offering expert care in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. I treat a range of conditions, including gallstones, hernias, reflux, achalasia and oesophago-gastric cancers, with precision and a personalised approach. Committed to exceptional outcomes and patient experience, I ensure every individual feels supported, and confident throughout their care journey.
I qualified in medicine from Calcutta University in 2001 and completed my General Surgical training in 2005, followed by specialist training in General and Upper Gastrointestinal surgery in London, including training at The Royal Marsden Hospital and University College London Hospital, both leading oesophago-gastric cancer centres.
I specialise in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, including laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, hernia repair, and anti-reflux procedures, with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of oesophago-gastric cancers.
I am actively involved in teaching and training trainees in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, alongside ongoing clinical research with over 30 publications.
I currently work as a Consultant Oesophago-Gastric and Upper GI Surgeon at BHR University Hospitals NHS Trust, delivering safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred care.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Samrat Mukherjee at Spire include:

Outside of my work, I enjoy maintaining a collection of exotic tropical fish, which gives me a chance to relax and appreciate the beauty and balance of nature.
