Mr Welland came in for gastric sleeve surgery with consultant bariatric surgeon Mr Simon Monkhouse.
"I have been overweight for many years and this has affected my health with my high blood-pressure and mobility problems. I had been referred to the hospital by my doctor for a gastric band but due to financial cutbacks I was unable to be treated under the NHS.
I met Mr Simon Monkhouse at East Surrey Hospital and he suggested I go to an open evening at Spire Gatwick Park. I found the evening very informative and decided that a gastric sleeve was the best option for me.
I found all the staff very helpful and felt reassured by them that I had made the right decision and would receive the best care.
I was on a liver reducing diet for five weeks prior to the operation. The operation was very successful and my recovery was better than I thought. All the staff were very caring and attentive during my stay.
My recovery at home has been steady and I continue to lose weight. I have now lost over four and a half stone since my first meeting in October 2014."
