I was appointed to NHS Lothian in April 2007. I lead the corneal service at the Eye pavilion and have been the Ex-Chair for the Quality improvement team in Ophthalmology for NHS Lothian. Since my appointment I have developed the corneal service to a very high standard, by introducing many new treatments such as Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking for Keratoconus, Corneal endothelial keratoplasty (transplantation) and ex-vivo Stem cell Transplants, both of which were the first of their kind of procedures performed in Scotland and were widely reported in newspapers and Television.
I am honorary senior Clinical lecturer with University of Edinburgh and examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I review articles for medical journals including EYE and the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
I am actively involved in training of Other Health Professionals including Opticians, Nurses and General Practitioners and regularly run courses for Optometrists. I have also been a consultant trainer for opticians at the Lothian Optometry Teach and Treat (LOTT) clinic.
My research interests include Stem Cell Transplantation and Corneal Grafting. I have many Publications, Paper presentations at conferences and have been an invited guest speaker at many conferences and teaching programmes.
